suiteplus completes house in konohana, osaka, with interior openings and atrium

architecture firm suiteplus has completed a two-story corner house in konohana, osaka, whose closed off exterior conceals a lightweight, airy interior space that combines a series of openings and atriums. built for a couple and their two children, the residence is part of a densely populated area, where the parameters of noise and privacy have lead the architects to adopt a configuration that is necessarily closed to the surrounding environment. however, on the inside, the house benefits from an open-plan interior complete with skylights, openings, and an atrium that reaches the full height of the structure.all images courtesy of suiteplus

suiteplus has built the house in konohana using a wooden construction method, while its closed off exterior appearance and monotone color finish, which may make it seem too inorganic, are complemented by a lightweight interior in white hues and vibrant details. due to the high amounts of traffic day and night, as well as the proximity of the neighboring house, the architects had to close off the corner residence from its surroundings, resulting in a completely blind façade. however, they secured an outdoor terrace, which opens only toward the sky but remains enclosed from the street due to its high walls. the semi-outdoor terrace allows plenty of natural light and wind to enter the house, which then reach every corner of the building through several interior openings on the walls and ceiling.
