Steeped in the riparian nature of Isumi in Chiba, Japan, ‘DAICHI ISUMI’ is a rental villa offering a mediative and minimalist retreat for a small group of guests up to a week. Suppose Design Office completed the design by seamlessly connecting indoors to outdoors and relying on natural conditions to aerate, cool down, and warm up the villa throughout the seasons.

All spaces other than the bedroom and bathroom seamlessly connect to the outdoors, and there is a deep roof and series of walls that control light and wind. On the open terrace, the pool spreads out in response to the river flowing in front of you. There, just like the trees in the forest, the gentle breeze sways gently, and the deep light soothes the soul. Finally, a detached house where you can entrust yourself to the murmuring of the water, connected to the deep forest cut out by the architecture,’ writes DAICHI, the company behind the villa.

a highly modern space steeped in riparian nature

Spread across two floors, ‘DAICHI ISUMI’ by Suppose Design Office (see more here) hosts an expansive living room on the first level, adorned with a large wooden table, lounge sofa, seating area, and kitchen space. Facing the common area is a façade that fully opens onto the reflective pool, creating a visual and physical continuation between both areas. The second level features a bedroom and warm-toned bathroom, framing a scenic view of the river ahead. Both floors boast a highly modern aesthetic, with deep colored tones and bold architectural gestures.

The Isumi River flows calmly in front of you and the surrounding trees. Various spaces have been set up to cut out this landscape. The dining table is as open as if you are eating outside, and the kitchen is designed to match your eyes. A lounge sofa where you can relax slowly when you go inside. It is an indoor space that seamlessly connects each space while maintaining a gentle relationship with nature,’ continues DAICHI.

Guests can also enjoy a sauna facing the Isumi River, with an original sauna stove and controllable temperature and humidity. In addition, the architects placed the shower and cold water bath right outside, where visitors can lie down while watching the sky on the spacious deck of the open-air bath.

‘As an optional service, we offer a meal kit supervised by Naoko Tanijiri, the owner of HITOTEMA, a reservation-only restaurant in Shibuya-ku, Tokyo. We are particular about ingredients with no additives, and all the necessary ingredients and seasonings are included in the set, so anyone can easily cook. Drinks include natural wine and craft beer,’ concludes the company
