completing the three phase cultural renovation project of françois pinault in venice, the ‘teatrino’ by tadao ando has just opened this year following the restoration of the ‘palazzo grassi’ in 2006 and the ‘punta della dogana’ in 2009. within its 1000 square meters the building includes a 225 seat auditorium, dressing rooms , control room, and foyer equipped to host meetings with invited artists, lectures, readings, concerts, performances and film screenings. large forms rendered in pristine concrete make for large open flexible spaces of impressive proportions. the various angled surfaces provide an ideal backdrop for artwork and films and reflect the natural light coming in from skylights. muted colors put emphasis on the works on display while allowing the structure the flexibility to be transformed by each exhibit, using form to enhance the architecture.
