new york developers sumaida + khurana (saif sumaida and amit khurana) have closed on a $21 million USD deal which sees them acquiring the land located at 152 elizabeth street in the nolita area of manhattan. the duo have commissioned pritzker prize winner tadao ando to design an eight-unit luxury condo for the site; a 32,000-square-foot project which will be the japanese architect’s first major build in new york city.

the proposed scheme will see ando incorporating aspects of the neighbourhood’s edginess into the structure, with gabellinisheppard set to design the interiors, as reported by crain’s. ‘our aim is to create a profound architectural statement that embraces the industrial character of the area,’ said mr. khurana.

construction is expected to begin later this year, with completion projected for 2016.
