located in the northeast corner of the hengqin island in zhihai, china, taiwan DaE international design practice has completed the ‘lotus square art center’. the overall program of the building follows three principles: green, ecology and future. the site was reasonably rearranged so that the layout and energy conservation of the structure would meet the demands of low power consumption, high efficiency, and low levels of pollution. the latest construction technology and technique was used to excavate the value of the architecture, resulting in a harmonious relation between human touch and nature.

the building was erected with an earth-covering form, using the outline of a fish, that extends from the ground to the roof. this union with its surroundings makes it hard to distinguish the demarcation line. the central area of the structure is translucent thanks to glass walls that integrate the interior with the exterior. the disposition of the sculptures and artworks enhance the artistic sense while developing a space that mixes public recreation, with arts, humanity, and nature.

rainwater is collected on both the roof and the ground and is then passed through a filtering system that allows the water to be used for irrigation. the exposed walls are occupied with low-E glass capable of reflecting heat and of allowing natural light at its most, reducing the usage of artificial lighting. the earth-covering design with real grass helps to reduce the heat island effect and perseverance of warmth.
