sga-studio builds TAKSHILA ACADEMY ACTIVITY CENTER in Akbarpur

Situated in Akbarpur, Uttar Pradesh, India, the Taksila Academy Activity Center by sga-studio harmoniously joins education and eco-consciousness. As the academy‘s third addition, it accompanies a primary school and senior school, forming a cohesive campus. The project follows a sustainable design approach, repurposing reclaimed materials, such as steel trusses, columns, louvers, and pipes, from a former factory in an effort to minimize waste and infuse character into the construction.

The new building facing the football field integrates with the existing senior school building and establishes connections through several pathways and a porch. The court commands the axis and placement of the new project. A sports hall, equipped with courts, activity spaces, and conference rooms, holds the center stage of the development. Adapting seamlessly, the multi-purpose space transforms into an expansive area for cultural events such as concerts and plays, with built-in bleachers accommodating students for both sports and spectatorship.

the construction repurposes Materials from Former Factory

Guided by an efficient sustainable approach, the design team employs upcycled building materials from the former oil factory aiming for an environmentally friendly construction that applies contemporary aesthetics. Repurposed old-style fink trusses, mono trusses, double columns, and purlins serve as bracings, railings, and structural elements composing the center’s frame. The lightweight metal puff panel roof, combining hipped and gable sections, shelters the space below from the wind and sun and creates an amalgamated space between the indoor and outdoor zones. The sections are separated by a louvered facade which allows the refracted light within the construction.
