located below a busy freeway in mexico city is a cluster of small restaurants called ‘mercado morera’, one of these food stalls is an interior intervention by taller david dana architects where the practice has developed the ‘yumi yumi restaurant’. serving japanese cuisine, the design reflects a contemporary asian aesthetic, where the aim was to create a strong brand identity so the design can be recognized and reproduced in multiple locations. the resulting stall space has been shaped around a traditional rice bowl, where an undulating wave of upside-down pots have been suspended over a sushi bar counter. the wall behind features a layered tile pattern, adding texture and an interesting element to the japanese eatery.
