the lemon tree house in mexico, is a single-family residence spread across two floors and conceived by taller estilo arquitectura. the scheme’s composition is divided into two clear volumes: the existing building containing the entrance and the second, comprised of the the bedrooms. to unify the separate programs, a landscaped courtyard functions as the terrace, a private pool and a tropical connection between the two buildings. this terrace is the main route of circulation and features a concrete stairway that takes the residents up to the bedrooms.

taller estilo arquitectura‘s aim for the restoration of the existing building was to create a fusion and harmonious balance between the historic and the contemporary in a seamless way. lighting and ventilation are the key factors in creating the comfortable setting that is constantly tied to the outside. the spaces enrich the aesthetics of materials and by maximizing passive conditioning systems, this allowed the reduction of energy costs in the home.

traditional houses in the historic center of mérida, mexico, uses cement floors in the form of mosaics with colorful and diverse designs, creating mats and setting the pattern for the decoration of each room. the architects have taken this material and the traditional concept to transform and add green pigment into the large areas of white cement, strongly defining the color palette that has become one of the defining features of the lemon tree house.
