designed by japanese studio TD atelier, the ‘music guesthouse IKUHA’ is located in kyoto in a building that previously hosted a shop and a home. as narrow as 2.7-meters wide, the house welcomes its visitors with a clean white entrance and newly-finished wooden door, behind which hides a renovated minimal interior comprised of plywood living cells named after famous nightclubs.

in order to eliminate the psychological feeling of pressure due to the narrowness of the building, the architects have decided to make the second-level space on the second floor instead of building an additional floor above it. another key step was to reinforce the structure with a brace along both floors.
