tham & videgard arkitekts: crossing dialogues for emergency architecture

’emergency nodes’ is a project that was conceived and developed by tham & videgard arkitekts for the recent ‘crossing: dialogues for emergency architecture exhibition held at NAMOC (national art museum of china). tham & videgard arkitekts proposed emergency architecture based on transforming a temporary camp into an urban environment. the idea was to integrate public spaces with an urban strategy so that the result is operative from day one and can also function as a guide encouraging successive development over time.

  • Looks good but how do these nodes interact with their surrounding groupings? why are they placed there in the first instance? how do they evolve? – I know architects / artists / designers love great images but beef up the content…..what’s it all about!? One problem I have with this as a paradigm is that the general trend in this kind of intervention is that these settlements are only for emergency purposes – they are temporary and transitional meaning that most governments and agencies want people to return to orginal homespaces
