italian firm luca curci architects presents THE LINK, a ‘conscious oriented’ vertical city plan that can host up to 200,000 people. the conceptual project aims to improve the overall quality of life by promoting sustainability, smart city technology and tackling the rise of urban sprawl — which is evidently increasing in today’s major cities.

‘the project aims to rise above the challenge of population density by successfully combining vertical expansion with economic innovation,’ tells luca curci architects. ‘a self-sustainable city-forest, that will absorb CO2, produce oxygen for cleaner air and increase urban biodiversity. the first smart city ‘conscious oriented’, that will prevent urban sprawl, produce and storage energy, improve air quality, increase urban biodiversity, and create a healthier lifestyle’.

comprised of four main towers, THE LINK is designed to host a total of 1,200,000 square meters of green space and over 2 million plants distributed across each floor to improve air quality. of the four towers, the tallest, which will house all the residents, is expected to have 300 floors and reach the height of 1200 meters. the other three towers, ranging between 650 to 850 meters tall, will host offices, government departments, healthcare facilities and educational institutions, including all levels of schools and universities. in the basement, infrastructures including internal and external docks will be built to allow tourists to enter.

programmed with a smart city artificial intelligence, THE LINK will be able to control the global city temperature, levels of CO2, humidity and global lighting system. through this, the architects hope to not only control the weather patterns but also store extra energy produced by solar panels and other renewable energy resources. the urban operating system will also improve poverty rates by providing the necessary programs that promote community cohesiveness and healthier lifestyle.

food production and farming integrated with zero-waste policy will allow residents to live healthier lifestyles. farming is integrated with social space and will enable communities to provide their own food and be self-sufficient. every building will include a community framework for living, including water baths, markets, spiritual and cultural hubs.
