the new TKTS ticket booth provides a warm, red glow to new york’s time square

the largest design competition in new york city’s history has awarded perkins eastman with the honors of redesigning the TKTS ticket booth (which offers discount tickets to broadway and off-broadway musicals) located in the centre of times square.

the original TKTS booth was a great gathering point for the culture of urban theatre, however there was nowhere for people to sit and take in all the sights and sounds of times square. the new design by choi ropiha, sees the booth as a terrace constructed of red translucent steps which can act as seating, while the booth is housed below. the new landmark addition provides an alternative view of the square, and adds some warmth to the bustling city centre.
