toledo rooftop by vertebral offers a glimpse of nature in the heart of mexico city

designed by vertebral and situated in mexico city, toledo rooftop brings a touch of nature and tranquillity to the busy urban environment below. the project sees the existing area transformed into a green space, offering visitors impressive views over the city skyline while being in close proximity to lush vegetation.

the rooftop has been designed by vertebral to incorporate a series of seating areas, brick planters and wooden pergolas. the brick planters provide a screen from the city, affording increased privacy while also being home to the greenery that’s planted within. grasses and lavender grow in an almost wild nature and sway in the breeze.

the timber and reed pergolas provide a sense of shelter and the feeling of a semi-indoor space, blurring the boundary between inside and outside. a variety of seating types are infused within the rooftop, including large sofas for lounging and hanging basket-type chairs. elements of water have also been incorporated into the design, creating a cool and relaxing environment.

the material palette has been selected to create a space that will age well. rusted steel, pine wood, brick, traditional talavera, polished concrete, reed and dried palm leaves create a conversation with the sage green and ochre color schemes on the walls and handcrafted furniture. toledo rooftop reintroduces the spirit of the outdoors into a bustling city that desperately needs to transform its roofs into inhabitable green spaces.
