tomoaki uno architects has completed the yomogidai house, a wooden dwelling located in a quite residential area about 20 minutes east of the city of nagoya in japan. the project is located on a gently sloped site measuring eight meters in width, and 28 meters in length. following the morphology of the site, the 82.80 sqm residence comprises a long and narrow construction with a blind street façade and a gable roof whose overhanging eaves provide a sheltered exterior perimeter.tomoaki uno architects completes wooden house in japan with blind street façadeall images by ben hosking

tomoaki uno architects has designed yomogidai house with a blind street façade, behind which the master bedroom is located. the main entrance is placed midway through the length of the residence, between the car and bicycle parking spaces. while the front elevation does not feature any openings, the back elevation is characterized by a floor-to-ceiling window that brings in plenty of natural light. there, the living room, kitchen and dining area coexist within one single room.tomoaki uno architects completes wooden house in japan with blind street façade

the house is built in wood both in its exterior and in its interior spaces, including floors, walls, cabinets and other furniture. its design takes its cues from japanese shrines, referencing their architecture on the general form of the construction as well as on the shape of the roof.
