topiaris landscape architecture creates tagus linear park in portugal

the ‘tagus linear park’ provides riverfront access as well as a variety of recreational outdoor spaces for the community of póvoa de santa iria, portugal, and was designed by topiaris landscape architecture. the ‘praia dos pescadores’ (fishermens’ beach) features an assortment of leisure functions, such as a volleyball court, areas for exercise, and places for fishing. a 700 meter-long wood bridge extends from this more manicured beach zone into a wild landscape, and accesses a distant bird observatory. in addition, a 6 km network of pedestrian trails including elevated paths and dirt trails weave through the marshland terrain.

with collaboration from atelier difusor de arquitectura, a group of reused shipping containers were composed to form a service building for the site. a wood-slat rain screen shades the metal structures to provide internal comfort. the facility includes a variety of outdoor spaces, including upper and lower balconies, as well as a breezeway.
