’81 trans-(parent)’ by TOUCH architect is a private residence in thailand that encloses a lush private courtyard behind a façade of timber louvers. designed for a couple who is planning to have kids in the near future, the house prioritizes connection to nature while offering spaces for socializing with friends. the ‘transparent’ green courtyard marks the center of the square-shaped building, and it can be seen and accessed from every other space of the house.

TOUCH architect has built ’81 trans-(parent)’ for a couple who requested a home close to nature without high maintenance, where they can entertain friends and raise their children in the future. the house was formed by pushing and pulling a solid square box to create a green space area in the center of the plot so that every room can have access to nature. all the trees that are integrated into the site help conceal the private courtyard, while the timber louvers of the façade create additional privacy and shade.
the private courtyard, complete with lush greenery and trees, forms a ‘transparent’ area wrapped in full-height glazing that can be enjoyed from every room in the house. the ground level features the entrance foyer, the living and dining areas, the kitchen and a bedroom. another three bedrooms are located on the upper floor, together with an activity/fitness room and a second living area. last, an upstairs outdoor terrace, which is also connected with central courtyard, provides additional space for relaxation and socializing with close friends.
