a couple longed for the countryside. a place in vietnam where they could clear their minds, raise chickens, and tend to a garden. a place where grandchildren could visit and play. it was important to them that their family of chickens were at peace, so they commissioned tropical space to design a place where chickens could roam and not feel so caged.

the tropical space design team hated the idea of imprisoning the chickens in small cages. they created platforms to roost on, little ponds to drink from, open areas to run and flap their wings at low altitude. they created a miniature social community for chickens, ducks, and playing children. a metal grill and cemboard were used to make the house. it is 2m x 10m x 2m in size — suitable for kids to play in.

when it gets dark, the chickens often climb to high places. to create activities for them, the tropical space team created a vertical axis. boxes are hung up and connected by lightweight stairs.

around the cages, owners plan to grow vegetables and luffa, which will climb and cover the roof to create an encompassed shade for the chicken coop community. all water and waste will drain off the sides of the garden, cleansing the coop and irrigating the garden’s vegetables simultaneously. after working on the chicken house, tropical space has admitted that sometimes, ‘the simple things make life more beautiful and lovely.’
