viewed from the street ‘2 house 2 studio’ by french architects raum features a minimal elevation with a simple, white facade. two pitched roofs are divided through the middle, suggesting there is more going on than initially meets the eye. the south elevation reveals a complex elevation of overlapping geometric forms, as the house is actually separated into four units. located in the summer vacation spot of quiberon’s peninsula in brittany, france, the flexibility of the design allows for seasonal co-habitation between the buildings – they each have adjoining studios that can be rented to one or more families. the stark white volumes are in contrast to their surroundings, but the clean lines and simple details help to create a sense of harmony. constructed within a square site of 16m x 16m, the building connects to the outside through glazed sliding doors, taking advantage of these shared spaces, while at the same time maintaining a level of privacy within each unit.
