Unknown Surface Studio sets Uncloud Coffee on triangular site

Unknown Surface Studio’s Uncloud Coffee interprets the ethereal qualities of the Aurora Borealis through its design, capturing the essence of these atmospheric light displays. The building’s form reflects the dynamic patterns of the northern lights, with an arching structure that integrates smoothly into the natural environment.

Located on Khao Lam Road in Chonburi Province, Thailand, Uncloud Café occupies a triangular site adjacent to the main road leading from Bang Saen, set against a backdrop of striking mountain views. The architectural layout maximizes the potential of the site’s shape, extending along the roadside into three distinct zones: a main entrance combining a bar and seating area, an outdoor lounge within a lush courtyard, and an indoor space with seating and workspaces.

curved barriers shield Uncloud Coffee from noise and heat

Unknown Surface Studio‘s design introduces flowing lines that seamlessly connect internal and external spaces, offering a cohesive architectural experience. Addressing challenges posed by the busy roadway, the design incorporates measures to manage noise and thermal comfort. The street-facing facade features towering, curved barriers that selectively open at key angles to maximize mountain views while minimizing noise and heat.

This configuration not only reduces auditory disruptions but also aids in maintaining a cooler interior. The courtyard channels unobstructed daylight and sky views into the building, ensuring natural illumination throughout the day. Landscape and hardscape elements follow the architectural flow, with strategically placed trees acting as natural sound barriers and providing shade, further blending the structure with its surroundings.
