ahead of china’s world horticultural expo 2014 in qingdao, UNStudio has completed the site’s theme pavilion, a large scale project which unites the main expo hall, a performance hall, conference center and a media center. the sinuous and fluid design highlights the relationship between science and nature, with buildings that emerge organically from the terrain, while simultaneously maintaining their individual identities. crafted roofscapes respond to the region’s skyline, envisioned as elevated and landscaped plateaus. each canopy addresses a different area of the site, with external terraces providing expansive views across the surrounding chinese landscape.
