UNstudio have just been named the winners of the competition to design the the yongjia world trade center in the chinese riverfront city of wenzhou.  the new complex in the riverside area will establish a green axis to the river front and create framed neighborhoods in the sky. located in the oubei sanjiang area in yongjia, the building is positioned to become an integrated functional area with businesses, residences, tourism services, as well as leisure and entertainment programming.
the functional shift of the WTC area, from a business and financial district to a mixed-use development which includes cultural and recreational facilities and a high percentage of residential properties, will create a forward-looking and sustainable city district that has all the components needed to support economic growth whilst propelling social connectivity and local identity.
five towers ranging from 287 meters to 146 meters tall overlook the entirety of the peninsula and enjoy panoramic riverfront views. the conceptual underpinning of the bordered volumes is that of a tray-like landscape of habitable volumes. ample greenery in form of sky gardens and lounges delineated commonly used spaces– a micro-scaled iteration of the proposed zoning idea that embeds differently themed areas into the water-bordered region.
