architects sai ma and choonghyo lee speculate on the future of mega-block urbanism in their ‘urban matrix’ project completed during a term at columbia GSAAP. regarded as a mixture of public and private spaces, the concept divides the rockefeller center via grid with a specific function given to every subdivision. the road system is transformed, at points re-orienting vertically to allow the delivery of people to certain levels. the interaction between public, semi-public, and private happens when the rigid, regressed office meets a dynamic theater of activity.
