the ‘UFOgel‘ holiday house presented by urlaubs architektur is a seemingly space-age object that has landed next to an old farmhouse near vienna austria. the all wooden structure sits on thin steel stilts overlooking the nearby alps as if simply placed on site. irregular in form, the exterior is clad in traditional wooden shingles like scales on the polygonal volume. the interior responds with a seamless warm timber ambiance and angular geometries that serve more than one efficient purpose in the modestly sized abode of 45 m2. the ground (relatively speaking) floor contains the kitchen and large dining area capable of accommodating up to 8 people. large windows with an inhabitable sill provide a great spot for resting with the scenery behind. the loft space has a sleeping area for four people and a bathroom with views of the mountains. joints are crafted with the utmost attention to detail,  every characteristic of the timber, from grain patterns, veneer sheets to structural components are thought out to the last detail, designing how exposed ends and reveals meet up or turn a corner.
