spanish practice vaumm arkitektura has proposed the ‘visitors centre of technology development plant for CO2 geological storage’ to be located in hontomín, burgos. carved into the landscape, this facility weaves under an earthworks formation to present individuals with an interactive journey of the injection and storage of carbon dioxide. galleries demonstrating reasons for carbon capture and operational methods of the area’s nearby storage plant instills a heightened awareness of relevant environmental concerns.

a network of trails continue onto the roof of the linear structure providing a green canopy to shelter the spaces below.  the vegetated roof garden minimizes the visual impact of the single story building while also minimizing the exposed constructed footprint, following the principles presented within the center’s program. the exposed facade is clad with vertical slats of recycled wood to reduce solar radiation. recreational spaces scattered throughout the grounds encourage and foster a personal connection between patrons and nature.
