venice architecture biennale 08 preview: german pavillion

‘MEtreePOLIS’ is a project based on developments in the field of genetic manipulation a 100 years from now, that could modify plants into power producers. designed by hollwichkushner architects, new york.

the ‘skysails’ concept is a fully automated towing kite propulsion and a wind optimised routing system, it has potential to reduce fossil fuel costs by 10-50% per annum. designed by skysails gmbh.

‘updating germany. projects for a better future’ is the german exhibit that will be held at this years international architecture exhibition in venice. the exhibit focusses on sustainability and how germany aims to change the attitude of engineers, designers and artists when planning and constructing buildings within germany. this ties in with theme of this year’s biennale ‘out there: architecture’. the exhibition features research projects, design experiments and pilot projects. the 11th international architecture exhibition of la biennale di venezia will run from 14 September until 23 November, 2008. we have shown 4 projects that will be included.

‘united bottle’ is constructed by PET bottles. the bottles have been redesigned so that they can be
slotted together into units. designed by instant architekten, berlin, germany.

‘helitrop house’ was the first house in germany to generate its entire energy needs
on its own. designed by rolf disch archikten, freiburg, germany.
