within the villa district of overgooi in almere, the netherlands, NEXT architects have built ‘villa overgooi’, a residential building that is made up of five specific dwellings located behind the gooimeer dike. each of the five dwellings is designed to have the characteristics of individual detached housing with a view in all four directions. each storey of the villa is oriented in a different direction, rotated a quarter turn, so that they all look out to the street and the garden. the building is elevated, offering each dwelling a view over the dike and gooimeer lake. the villa’s exterior garden has also been raised so that all residents have access to the garden via the terrace from their living room on the first floor. below the building there is a small plaza where all the doors that lead into the villa are located.
