construction work has begun in vietnam at the site of FPT university, a new educational campus designed by vo trong nghia architects. the scheme is characterized by a wealth of green spaces that have been designed to promote student and staff interaction and well-being. described as a landmark building for sustainability, the project boasts tree-covered rooftops and balconies, and a plant-filled courtyard.

coinciding with the university’s ground breaking, vo trong nghia architects has released new renderings of the project. a mountainous landscape is formed of staggered floorplates that blend into the surrounding landscape. this creates a smooth transition between floor heights, while simultaneously enclosing a courtyard at the center of the scheme for both students and staff. vegetation extends from this central space across circulation wells, balconies, walkways, and rooftop terraces.

a semi-outdoor garden allows fluid circulation and unrestricted views of the courtyard, as well as the city beyond. the extensive use of natural vegetation reduces the campus’ carbon footprint — lessening the need for air conditioning, while providing extra shade and better air quality. the multi-storey building adds variation to the flat urban landscape, serving as a visual counterpoint to the area’s existing vertical blocks that stand as isolated objects.
