the spa is designed for a resort located in the kien giang province

vo trong nghia’s proposal for the spa is composed of three parts: the main building, treatment rooms, and the back of house connected by a floating bridge. the design aims to establish a compact and autonomous place of solace, where people can immerse themselves within the lush mangrove reservoir whilst being inside the bamboo constructions. visualized as a series of huts that seemingly float just above the water level, the scheme will be nestled among the large mangrove trees and an ecosystem of plants. the sweeping stone wall masses create a protective buffer between the spa, the surroundings and the guests.

the main building features twelve bamboo bays that are organized in an arc formation and accommodates the reception, waiting areas and consultation serves for treatments and pedicures. skylights invite natural light into the curvilinear space and a sense of continuity is achieved by the consistent use of glass and bamboo louvers. guests are invited to venture towards the heart of the reservoir because of the hovering open areas that extend from the spa to the water.

in addition, the four single treatment rooms and one double treatment room will be based along a stone bridge that emerges from the water. each room consists of a bamboo shell, emphasizing a reserved simplicity. the structure inside appears dynamically curvilinear and during the design process, the architects were influenced by the image of clasping hands and interwoven fingers.
