Walker Workshop’s layout arranges Four rectilinear wings

Walker Workshop‘s Rustic Canyon House, located in Los Angeles, sits in the lush Rustic Canyon area between Santa Monica and Pacific Palisades. The design focuses on drawing in nature and light through strategic elements. The central living room and kitchen, with floor-to-ceiling glass walls, serve as the heart of the one-story home. Four rectilinear wings extend from this central space, housing four bedrooms and a garage. The north wall features a small fireplace surrounded by a garden of succulents. The south-facing kitchen boasts a fifteen-foot-high ceiling with framed glass, offering views of a grove of melaleuca trees.

Minimalist residence boasts Nature-Centric Design

The exterior’s smooth stucco walls, with subtle variations in height and depth, echo the spoke-like layout, offering discrete moments to appreciate nature. The design pays homage to the classic hacienda style with a modern, minimal interpretation. Noteworthy features include a walled courtyard for children’s play and a skylight in the master bedroom’s floating ceiling, providing views of the existing coast live oaks. The project team at Walker Workshop served as both the architect and general contractor, overseeing key elements like the steel window system and crafting dining room furniture. The interior design was handled by owner Lisa Petrazzolo, with art contributions from Creative Art Partners.
