we architecture‘s ‘roskilde campus’ project is a new educational area for 1500 students within the fields of marketing, IT, and food engineering. located in denmark, the new building will host various areas dedicated towards different functions including classroom spaces, social spots and event spaces.

the 10.000 m2 project which includes renovation as well as 4000m2 new build, was conceived by we architecture and friis & moltke architects on the basis of three main concepts ‘community’, ‘responsibility’ and ‘durability’. the communal feeling was the key word for the development, incorporating social areas which would contribute towards a cordial spirit. this aim was achieved through flexible spaces which respond to different activities such as events, informal meeting areas as well as creative and social zones.

atrium and seating area

the outside exterior features a modular brick facade, with adjoining cantilevered section which offers a shaded area for students to sit and socialise. just in front is the glass pavilion which hosts the canteen and auditorium. intersecting windows seen between these two sections allow light to flood through to the inside, creating a perfect balance between contrasting elements. clean cut lines and shaded tones are followed through to the interior which hosts a large atrium. this area acts as the central heart of the building, hosting social zones and cleverly designed adjoining staircases which lead to other parts of the building.

other features include wooden panels which follow down from the corridors through to other sections including the ceiling and walls of different work stations. all of these elements combined allows for a sense of continuity and movement, encouraging interaction between students and professors.
