architectural visualizations have the power to tell a story without words, to transport us to a different time or place, and to imagine a better world. and that’s exactly what the entrants of arch out loud‘s RENDER OF THE YEAR have achieved. following an international call to architects and designers, arch out loud shares the results of its 2020 competition, from jacinto monteiro’s vision of a misty winery to zhou zhiheng’s wrapped version of tiananmen square.

​the competition sought out compelling images of architecture, interiors, cities, and worlds that could be. the results are divided into five categories: overall awards, young designer awards, undergraduate awards, interior awards, and exterior awards. collectively they represent a wide range of visual content, styles, and scales that tell the stories of their designs.

the jury for RENDER OF THE YEAR consisted of both design practitioners and design visualizers. it included anne-marie armstrong (AAmp studio), deborah berke (deborah berke partners), alice britton (squint / opera), keely colcleugh (kilograph), ivi diamantopoulou (new affiliates), peter guthrie (the boundary), alex hogrefe (visualizing architecture design distill), catherine huang (bjarke ingels group), juan rico (methanoia), george yabu + glenn pushelberg (yabu pushelburg). the full results can be viewed on the competition website here.
