Where the forest meets the water, X Atelier proposes a wooden structure that draws a continuous gesture over a bay of the Inha River, a tributary river of the Douro Region, Portugal. The continuous form of Mobius Pier, anchored to the riverbank, seeks to intensify the relationship between the body and the landscape, offering new ways of connecting with nature. Thoughtfully integrated, it minimizes ecological impact on the surrounding landscape, offering different uses at multiple levels and enhancing different spatial experiences. The structure is built using a modular system of repetitive wooden elements, allowing for efficient assembly and adaptability.

x atelier enhances the public experience along the riverbank

This is already a recreational area in summer, with a path along the riverbank punctuated by platforms and used as a stop for small boats. However, this new structure anchored at the edge of the forest allows pedestrian access to the water, reinforcing the link between the natural environment and public use. The continuous form of the Mobius Pier allows people to experience the natural element in three ways: on land, functioning as a walkway; on the water, enabling docking of kayaks and river swimming; and as a platform for jumping and diving.

Parametrically developed by the team at X Atelier, the proposal follows a construction logic aimed at efficiency in execution and assembly, allowing significant cost savings. By repeating a single modular piece, the ribbon shaped structure can be reproduced with constant inclinations throughout its extension. The structure is supported by pillars, minimizing its impact on the ground and the surrounding ecosystem.
