XPIRAL designs windsurfer house in puntas de calnegre, spain

in a small seaside town of puntas de calnegre, near lorca, spain, the ‘windsurfer house’ gives a local enthusiast of the sport designed by spanish architect javier peña galiano of XPIRAL. geographically located between africa and europe, the mediterranean area features scenic and cultural distinctiveness amidst a rural and fishing lifestyle that appeals to tourists. beaches, cliffs, coastal mountains and farmland attract visitors while the local residents retain less benefits. an existing and incomplete structure became the starting point, adapting to the started footprint and adding or substituting for the new construction.

the landscape undulates upward to cover a walk-out basement and garage for vehicles and boats. at the elevated ground level, the entrance leads to the bedroom areas. culminating with the best panoramic views of the mountains and sea, the highest floor contains the kitchen, dining and living area with pivoting glass door to access a terrace. the vertical circulation, exposed and hand built treads of 10mm chapon HEB along a beam creates a sculptural element.
