tokyo-based practice yamazaki kentaro design workshop has completed ‘house in sakura’, also known as ‘the house in the garden’. as the name suggests, the dwelling is situated within a large area of plantation offering generous views of the lush natural landscape.

the building’s long and narrow footprint is comprised of five connected blocks, slightly shifted in their alignment. each area provides a different function, while remaining an open and fluid singular volume. consequently, there are no defining boundaries between the kitchen, living area, and the study. the configuration also ensures that the home is resistant to earthquakes, an important requirement of the design.
