located on a slope overlooking mount fuji, this property by yo yamagata architects provides living accommodation for a family across two distinct storeys. at the request of the client, the design team ensured that the structure would adopt a low profile, remaining predominantly unobtrusive in relation to surrounding properties.
the concrete storey is embedded within the terrain, with the lighter timber structure stacked on top. steel beams allow the building to partially cantilever over the incline, with the upper level suspended five meters above the drop. the use of wood is continued internally, complementing white walls that help maximize natural daylight within the dwelling, while a carefully organized fenestration ensures residential privacy.
