the russian architecture duo, peter zaytsev and arseniy borisenko, has renovated the sixth floor of an old brewery-turned factory into a hub for iponweb in moscow. in its rendition as an office, the building’s history is still visible in elements such as an elevated floor and multiple beam and utility line systems in the ceiling. the adaptation by za bor architects employs a simple color palette, irregular geometries, planters and typography to transform the space into a work place for 120 developers, associated managers and staff, and visiting international partners.

the ‘iponweb company office’ consists of an open plan broken up by an angular entry tunnel that leads to a large gathering space. this interior plaza acts as a welcoming area for international partners that visit from out of town, as there is no administrative function in the office. at the perimeter za bor architects has located four of the seven conference rooms. the other three are located near the elevator lobby. each is named after a planet, whose identifying characteristics are written on the wall as decor. the celestial reference is meant to remind employees of the company’s geocentric role.

upholstered seating, plant life and a spray acoustic treatment on the ceiling dampen sound within the chamber otherwise prone to echoes. the furnishings simultaneously add color to the neutral palette, while the greenery additionally acts as a dividing wall between different functions. located in an industrial park, the stark finishes are complimented by the urban fabric beyond, which includes a spectacular view of shukhov radio tower.
