zaha hadid architects, foster + partners and SOM are among seven practices shortlisted to design the expansion of mexico city airport. as reported by bloomberg, the new complex will provide the vast transport hub extra with extra capacity programmed to accommodate 40 million annual passengers. the other high-profile offices include rogers stirk harbour + partners, gensler, teodoro gonzález de león with alberto kalach of TAX arquitectura and pascall+watson. the 5,000 hectare development is expected to cost around $5 billion USD while it is understood that construction could begin as in late 2014.
