‘sketchpad’, by polish artist adam garnek, blurs the line between functional machine and art object. made entirely of steel, the machine can draw with pencils, pens — or whatever else you can get to fit in the holder — on a single piece of A4 (8.5”x11”) paper. the ‘sketchpad’ is moved manually by both hands of the user; the left controls vertical and horizontal movement of the drawing device (pencil), and the right presses a pedal that lifts and retracts the paper surface. when pressed, utensil contact occurs. after a creative session, the ‘sketchpad’ folds in on itself, forming a compact unit that can be packed away until next time.
