‘airside’ – richard mosse

jack shainman gallery, new york november 13 – december 20, 2008

‘airside’ is artist richard mosse’s inaugural solo exhibition in new york and is comprised of large scale colour photographs depicting air disaster simulators. air disasters have become a key symbol in the public’s cultural imagination. in mosse’s photographs we see test sites and dummy aircrafts, which play an important formal role. these machines and sites allow emergency crews to prepare for accidents, and at the same time hint at the modern obsession of disaster. mosse is an irish photographer who recently graduated from yale’s photography MFA program.
