historic champagne house maison perrier-jouët teams up with milan-based designer andrea mancuso of analogia project at design miami/ 2019 in the creation of ‘metamorphosis.’ together with a vibrant, otherworldly ceramic-clad installation, perrier-jouët expands its dialogue between nature, champagne, and design to offer a new artistic tasting ritual. ‘metamorphosis’ includes a collection of six glasses and a champagne bowl designed by mancuso, crafted using the highly demanding practice of lost-wax casting and theatrically presented across six alcoves.

in the development of the installation at design miami/ 2019, maison perrier-jouët and andrea mancuso drew influence from the expressive formal characteristics of the art nouveau movement. characteristic of the early twentieth century style, the champagne house integrates both creative liberty and an unconventional observation of nature. axelle de buffévent, style director at maison perrier-jouët elaborates: ‘loyal to the ethos of art nouveau, mancuso’s work for the house unites traditional craftsmanship with modern technology and is infused with maison perrier-jouët’s vision of reinvented nature.’

the design team presents the vibrant and cavernous installation as an interpretive expression of the house’s vineyards, its cellars, and the champagnes themselves. the immersive space is inspired by the ethereal atmosphere and shadowy silence of the cellars, together with the luminous colors of the house’s vineyards. mancuso’s interpretation of this experience stimulates the curiosity of the viewer by intercepting the familiar with the unexpected. the form of each of the 11,000 ceramic pieces recalls that of bottles maturing in the cellars, while the palette forms an image of the perrier-jouët vineyard during the harvest. the installation was realized alongside italian ceramicists, alessio sarri and nuevoforme.
