‘sonnabend’ from the series ‘sentry: gallery desks in chelsea’

andy freeberg is a san francisco artist who is intensively interested in the act of showing art in galleries and museums. this fascination comes across in his two series ‘sentry’ and ‘guardians’. in ‘sentry’, freeberg photographs the desks in the stark gallery spaces of new york’s chelsea neighbourhood. in each shot, he lines up to shoot the all white spaces with a single head poking out from behind the desk. in contrast, ‘guardians’ focuses on the female guards in russian art museums. as freeberg notes, ‘the presence of the women becomes an inherent part of viewing the artwork itself’.http://andyfreebergphotoart.com
