using a scalpel, hot glue gun, tweezers, scissors and a pair of steady hands, london based designer andy macgregor has intricately crafted a life-sized men’s suit using italian paper manufacturer fedrigoni‘s recently-released savile row-inspired sheets. by constructing patterns from the various fabric panels and building it from inside out, macgregor has rendered the full-scale sculpture with hyper-realism and acute attention to minute detail. a cardboard mannequin has allowed each panels to be fitted to standard torso shape.

since paper as a medium tends to buckle or crease easily, macgregor has adopted a variety of stocks to both reinforce and add flexibility. ‘it was important to study a real suit, and follow similar methods and patterns a fashion designer would in order to achieve an accurate replica.‘ he explains. the result sees button holes, pocket squares, ties and trim delicately and carefully fashioned from the atypical couture material of paper.
