iheartberlin and media partner smart urban stage have created ‘GIF. me. berlin’, a photographic exhibition of animated GIFs on exhibition for one day at HBC kino and now displayed online in the iheartberlin virtual gallery. the GIF, developed in 1987 as the first digital file format for saving color images, was made popular as an artistic medium on the internet in the past year. the show features the collective animated works of eleven berlin-based artists including raphaela anouk, crystal mafia, arne grugel, katja hentschel, hara katsiki, floran kolmer, clemens poloczek, oliver rath, voin de voin, carolin weinkopf, iheartberlin and malte jäger.
