for this community project, barato has drawn influence from a short story written by portugese writer gonçalo m. tavares which explores the relationship between different artistic fields — from photography and video to street graffiti/art, ephemeral art and performance. as a result, the installation binds storytelling, visual graphics, community and urban landscapes into one clear message. even more, ‘kashine writes NO’ is part of the international flaneur project — an artitstic initiative carried out by around twenty organizations from more than ten countries.

all in all, barato’s public intervention uses literature, urban narratives, photography and the innocence of children to provide a refreshing vision about the public spaces situated in the old town of abrantes. from gigantic hand writings, to street art and black cinema, the local spirit is undeniably embedded into this urban initiative.
