barbara anna husar releases her ‘flying udder’ hot air balloon over vienna
symbolic of a sensitive resource, the artist's 'flying udder' celebrates the 21st century's endeavor toward sustainability.
[FEATURED]
viennese artist barbara anna husar elevates her FLYING UDDER social sculpture over the vienna. the hot air balloon playfully takes shape as a cow’s udder as a representation of the change in values over the 21st century. the udder, synonymous with the feminine and the first source of nourishment for mammals, is removed from its familiar context. the artist presents the cow’s udder as a metaphor for sustainability to further strategies of moving beyond the seemingly unstoppable push for growth, that drives the current economy towards greater balance between humankind and nature.

with her FLYING UDDER balloon sculpture over vienna, barbara anna husar seeks a strategy of ‘rethinking on a grand scale.’ with her latest work, the 3,500 cubic-meter udder-shaped hot air balloon, the artist introduces a catalyst for future action and for a discourse to overcome the ‘human perversion of maximization.’ elevating this symbol above the city celebrates a newly developed concern for the environment and the use of resources that are driving the transformation of society. the artist comments: ‘UDDER gives and nourishes, UDDER is a sensitive resource, UDDER is female.’
