sprüth magers’ berlin gallery is presenting a monumental site-specific work by barbara kruger from now through december 22, 2017. ‘forever’ comprises an immersive room-wrap and multiple new vinyl works that take over all four walls and the floor of the gallery’s main exhibition space. kruger’s bold written statements center around themes of truth, power, belief and doubt, and embody the distinctive aesthetic that she has evolved over the duration of her forty-year career.

exhibited works at the sprüth magers show include ‘untitled (bad is good)’, ‘untitled (you are here)’, and ‘untitled (war time, war crime)’, which wrap around the gallery’s interior walls and floor. ‘forever’ — an exhibition which marks exactly thirty years since kruger’s first solo show at monika sprüth gallery in cologne — continues the artist’s long-standing interest in language. kruger blends words and imagery sourced from books and magazines, turning a critical eye towards contemporary societal themes like consumerism, desire, political will, and the abuse of power. her evolving exploration of architecture has seen the expanding scale of her installations, which envelop visitors in disorienting, but thought-provoking, environments.
