barnaby barford: the battle of trafalgar OA gallery, madrid april 28 – june 30, 2010

ceramic artist barnaby barford is currently exhibiting his largest work to date, the battle of trafalgar, at madrid’s OA gallery. the installation is a multi-piece composition that ‘reflects the artist’s corrupted version of  trafalgar square’. the historic london square is a landmark in the city and an integral part of modern british history. barford’s version of the square is filled with drink, violence, consumerism, junk food, protest and terrorism. the centre of the installation features a graffiti covered lion flanked by 4 cherubs on columns covered in bird feces. around this are 22 ceramic vignettes that transform typical saccharine figurines with a radical modern narrative.
