Masquespacio designs greek restaurant interior in valencia

Adding to their extensive collection of unique interiors, Masquespacio presents Egeo, a Greek souvlaki restaurant in Valencia, Spain. The design maintains the brand’s white and blue color palette, while further representing the essence of Greek architecture with modern reinterpretations of deteriorated ancient columns. With Masquespacio using a 3D printer to produce the recreation of the columns, the project interweaves tradition and technology generating an appealing interior with a distinctive identity.

a spatial materialization of Greece

The project commenced when the owners of Egeo asked Masquespacio to create their first restaurant in Valencia. Already counting two venues in Madrid, the souvlaki chain was looking for an interior design studio that could give continuity to its already existing interior identity. ‘We were immediately excited about the idea (…), we also felt a special connection with the history.’ shares Christophe Penasse, co-founder of the Spanish design studio. ‘It was a huge challenge for us to respect the minimalistic Greek design and at the same time offer a different experience.’ he adds.

As a first step, the team decided to maintain Egeo’s white and blue color palette, while also applying cementitious materials that are typical of the ancient Greek houses. In addition, the walls above incorporate volumes with organic forms as one of the most highlighting features of the space, continuing with the search to represent the essence of Greek architecture. ‘We tried to materialize Greece in the space, further than just using the usual white and blue color palette.’ explains co-founder Ana Milena Hernández.

modernized ancient greek columns

Perhaps the most iconic element of the interior is a series of modernized ancient Greek columns painted in bright blue. For the recreation of these deteriorated pillars, the studio used a 3D printer, decorating the structure with additional LED tubes. The bright blue tone and the fluorescent lamps make the contemporary decorative elements stand out while bringing ancient tradition and 21-century technology closer together. Last but not least, the order bar was allocated right in the middle of the restaurant with the aim to recreate a bustling environment, as if you were ordering your souvlaki from a mobile kiosk in the middle of a Greek market.blue 3D printed ancient columns emerge from masquespacio's greek restaurant in spain
