this bubbly cosmic cave is an 'instagram trap' made from 18,000 recycled plastic cups

von wong, imaginator studios, and an army of volunteers tirelessly sifted-through and cleaned 18,000 dirty plastic cups — all to ‘trap’ unsuspecting instagrammers in a cave of 18,000 misguided decisions. single-use plastic cups are used for minutes or seconds, then tossed. any instagrammer or internet surfer caught in this cave of wonder, will have to remember that the next time they order takeout.

here, press this freshly coined word in the back of your mind — ‘plastikophobia.’ no, it’s not a real word and no, it doesn’t just mean the fear of plastic. rather, it should be the fear of what may happen to our world if we do not stop making careless decisions. a few seconds of sipping from a plastic cup for you, is years and years that it may float and get caught in real ocean caves. thankfully, there’s people like von and imaginator studios, to develop ‘weapons of mass creation,’ like this.

weapons of mass creation is the tagline for imaginator studios. they’re the fabrication studio in singapore that helped bring this gorgeous instagram trap to life. their motto is one von wong and his many volunteers proudly identify with and without them, none of this could have been possible. ‘they can do just about anything… they were the ones that came up with the modular structure, so the whole installation could be transported from A to B,’ said von wong of his collaborators.

for more socially woke, instagrammable projects, and ear to ear smiles from volunteers having fun, check out more from von wong’s blog. oh, and one last note from von — ‘if you know anyone in singapore that are looking to raise awareness for the issue in a creative way, send them to the sustainable singapore galleries in the marina barrage from march 7th to april 18th!’
