there’s a nine-story, public slide opening at aventura mall, in aventura florida, USA. carsten höller designed it. the scientist-cum-artist is world renowned for his large-scale artworks (often giant slides), but this particular piece debuts his first, permanent slide with a united states address. höller will inaugurate the slide himself, christening his hard work with a fun ride down the tube, on february 11th — but he won’t be alone.

with höller, 93 feet in the air, will be long-time friend, actress chloë sevigny. she will race with him, in tandem, down the double-barreled slide. höller, a former scientist, describes the double-barreled aventura slide tower as ‘isomeric,’ comprised of two titanium steel slides.

visitors reach them by climbing a central spiral staircase, where, at the top, they are presented with the choice of sliding down clockwise or counterclockwise — a decision that seems so arbitrary, unless approached from a butterfly-effect-mindset (slightly off topic from the nature of isomeric slides, but still worth considering when you’re about to race your friend to the bottom of the tower, at speeds of up to 15 miles per hour…)
